Graveside funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. on April 26, 2008 at the Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery of Rural Des Moines, Iowa. Pauline Linda Burnett of Earlham, Iowa officiated. Special music was “Amazing Grace”, “The Old Rugged Cross” and “Wind Beneath My Wings” by Bette Midler.
Pauline Rose Smith was born the daughter of Ray and Lena Bernau Addy near Winterset, Iowa on November 27, 1912. She died at her home in Des Moines on April 22, 2008 at the age of 95 years, 4 months and 26 days.
Pauline graduated from Winterset High School in 1931. She and Ray Smith were married in Missouri on June 6, 1931. This union was blessed with three children: Betty, Keith and Gene. Pauline and Ray lived in Redfield, Iowa, prior to moving to Des Moines in 1939. Pauline and Ray lived in their current home since 1941. Pauline was a sales clerk at Younkers and was a collator operator for the State of Iowa for several years, however enjoyed being a wife and mother most of her life. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, crocheting, and spending time at the cabin at Lake Diamondhead. Pauline was a life member of the VFW Auxiliary Post #738 of Des Moines and a member of the Windsor Height Methodist Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Betty Gordon of Shoreview, Mn; son Gene Smith and wife Patti of Gladstone, Mo; 13 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; 8 great great-grandchildren; and 7 great great great- grandchildren.
Pauline was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ray Smith; son, Keith Smith; sisters, Rae Lena Mortinson and Laura Travis; brothers, Robert, LeRoy and Floyd Addy; and great grandson, Trenton Smith.
Interment was held in the Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery of Rural Des Moines, Iowa. Kuhn Funeral Homes was in charge of arrangements.
