Sarah Caroline, daughter of Richard and Minerva Hoagland, was born at Panora, Iowa, February 23, 1867 and died at her home in Earlham, Iowa, September 3, 1927, aged 60 years, 6 months and 10 days.

She was married to John R. Forbes, of Washington, Iowa, January 2, 1884. To this union were born two children: Mrs. Minerva K. Anthony, of Earlham, and William Albert Forbes. The years immediately following her marriage were spent at various places in Iowa and in Illinois where the deceased taught school. With her daughter she moved to Earlham twenty years ago and has resided here since.

While still a girl she joined the Methodist church at Washington, Iowa, later transferring her letter to the Earlham church of the same denomination. Her true Christian spirit was manifest in the many acts of kindness she was happy in performing for her family and friends. Though the major part of her life was spent in great physical suffering, she ever stood ready to serve those whom she loved. After years of ill health when it seemed strength was at last slowly returning, she passed quickly and peacefully into the Great Beyond with only her devoted mother in attendance. A dreamer and idealist throughout life, to the very last she clung to the gossamer vision of health, and in death found a glorious relief.

She is survived by her mother Mrs. Minerva Hindbaugh, her daughter Mrs. Minerva K. Anthony, her son William Albert Forbes, three grandchildren and a host of friends made through many years of pleasant business association in Earlham.

Funeral services were conducted at the Methodist Church Monday afternoon with Rev. Beers officiating. Burial was in Earlham Cemetery.
