June 5, 1968Funeral Sunday For HARRIS NICHOLS
Funeral services for Harris Nichols, 48, were held Sunday afternoon, June 2, from the Kale Funeral Home in Truro.
Mr. Nichols, who farmed near Peru, died May 30, 1968 at Iowa Methodist hospital in Des Moines, following a four month illness.
A son of Earnest and Sadie Gilbert Nichols, he was born on a Walnut township farm April 9, 1929. He attended Banner and Deer Creek country schools.
On Dec. 9, 1938, he was married to Eva Travis. They spent their married life in the Peru community, except for two years in California. For 11 years he was an oil truck service man.
He was active in the National Farmers Organization, serving as county secretary. He was vice president of the Peru Conservation Club.
He is survived by his wife, two children, Evan Harris of Des Moines, and Mrs. Larry Tripp (Darla) of Des Moines; four grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Ivan Austin of Peru; a half-brother Robert Searl of Truro; and a half-sister, Mrs. Margaret Mills of California.
Officiating at the funeral Sunday was the Rev. Richard Hempenius. Burial was in the Peru cemetery.
