DEAN SILVERTHORN, Afton,

Daniel “Dean” Silverthorn, 87, of Afton died Nov. 20, 2008, at the Afton Care Center.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 25, at Powers Funeral Home in Afton with Pastor William Richardson officiating. Burial was at Moon Cemetery in rural Macksburg. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Dean Silverthorn was born Dec. 7, 1920, in Monroe Township, Madison County, to Oliver Daniel and Eva Belle (Brady) Silverthorn and was a 1939 graduate of Macksburg High School. On Nov. 27, 1941, he was united in marriage to Georgia Tabitha McDonald in Grant City, Mo. Dean lived and farmed in Iowa, then Missouri, before moving to Afton in 2003.

In the early 1950s, Dean accepted Christ as his Savior at Beulah Chapel in Lorimor. He attended the Fellowship Church in Lorimor until moving to Missouri. He also was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Alton, Mo. Dean served as a deacon and elder in the various churches he attended. Additionally, he was a member of Carpenters Local 106.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Cleo Belle Silverthorn, and a brother, Dale Silverthorn.

He is survived by his wife, Georgia, of Afton; three sons, Danny Joe Silverthorn of Peoria, Ill., Freddy Dean Silverthorn of Macksburg, and Samuel Louis Silverthorn of Nampa, Idaho; a brother, Dwight Silverthorn of Mesa, Ariz.; and seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
