Rose Ann Smith, daughter of William and Jane Slattery, was born March 17, 1878 at Cottage Point, Long Island, New York. She came to Holcomb, Kansas when one year old and lived there until 1909. She was married to Fred Smith of Earlham, February 20, 1907, came to Earlham in March 1, 1909. She lived on a farm south of Earlham until the death of her husband in 1930. She worked out in the homes of relatives and friends and lived in the home of Will Smith and Mrs. Ray Smith before going to a nursing home in Earlham eight years ago.

She celebrated her 100th birthday last year on March 17. An open house was held at the nursing home for her.

She was a member of the Methodist church in Earlham.

Her husband and two brothers preceded her in death. Nieces and nephews of her husband survive her. She has no other living relation.
