Mary Loretta Dooley, 91, of Pella, Iowa, formerly of Winterset, died Sunday, October 19, 2008 at Jefferson Place in Pella. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 23, 2008, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Winterset with Father Chris Hartshorn officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Irish Settlement Catholic Church Cemetery in Madison County, Iowa.
Mary was born on January 5, 1917, at Cumming, Iowa to John and Ella (Quinn) Cassady. In 1935, Mary graduated from St. Joseph High School in Churchville and then went on to receive her Teaching Certificate from Simpson College. She was married on May 6, 1942 at Churchville, Iowa, to George Joseph Dooley.
She spent her lifetime in Madison County having taught school for 5 years after college and then became a homemaker. She had been a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Joseph Altar Society, Third Order of St. Francis, Holliwell Happy Hour Club, Buffalo Gals, and was a living History Farms volunteer. Her pastimes included reading and walking.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Suzanne (Bruce) Smith of Oskaloosa; sister, Helen (Edmond II) Bacon of Boone; and grandchildren, Heidi Smith and Brad (Katie) Smith.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ella (Quinn) Cassady; husband, George Dooley; brother, John Cassady; and two infant brothers.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 3 to 8 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Winterset with family present from 5 to 8 p.m.. A Vigil Service will be held at 7 p.m. Memorials given to the family will be directed to St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by McCalley - Collins Funeral Home in Winterset.
