Elijah Perkins, who was among the oldest residents and earliest settlers of Madison county, died last Saturday morning near Red Oak, Iowa. Mr. Perkins was born May 3, 1810, in Sullivan county, New Hampshire, and hence was nearly 88 years of age. He came to Madison county in 1849 and settled in Lincoln township, where he resided continuously until three years ago. After his second marriage he removed to Carlow, Mo., and later to the vicinity of Red Oak, where he spent the last days of a long, active and useful life. He leaves one son, Wesley Perkins, of this place.

Elijah Perkins, formerly a respected citizen of Madison county, father of Wesley Perkins of this city, died at Red Oak last Friday and was buried Sunday. Four years ago Mr. Perkins moved from this county. He was nearly 89 years old, and one of the early settlers of this county.
