LARRY MONEYSMITH, Earlham

Mr. Larry Moneysmith, born February 4, 1938, passed away August 23, 2008 at the age of 70.

A memorial service honoring his life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, August 29, 2008 at the Earlham Friends Church with burial in Earlham Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Covenant Messenger Ministries or the American Cancer Society.

Larry Wilson Moneysmith, age 70, from Earlham, Iowa, went to be with the Lord, August 23, 2008.

He was born and raised in Knoxville, Iowa, where he graduated from high school. He then joined the United States Air Force where he served proudly as part of the 6911th Security Mobile Radio Group, spending the last two years in Germany. After being honorably discharged he returned home to Knoxville. He took a position with the JC Penney Company as department manager.

In 1964 he married his wife, Carol, and together they raised their three children, sons Michael and Jeffrey, and daughter Rhonda. Job opportunities place the family in the Iowa communities of Fort Madison, Atlantic, Council Bluffs, Shenandoah and Glenwood, later to Omaha, Nebraska, and then Earlham, Iowa where Larry and Carol retired to be closer to family and grandchildren.

During Larry’s early job career he managed two Montgomery Ward retail stores. The next 20 years he managed an office for the Iowa Department of Job Service.

Larry was passionate about procuring Bibles and Christian teaching materials for the foreign mission fields in several countries including Ghana, West Africa. Among his other joys, Larry loved gardening and numerous activities with his family and grandchildren.

Larry is preceded in death by his parents, Azel and Ruby Moneysmith, and son Michael Moneysmith.

Surviving family members who are loving and missing Larry are: his wife, Carol; son Jeffrey Moneysmith & wife Destiny of Salida, California; daughter Rhonda Bowers and husband Cliff of Earlham, Iowa; four grandchildren, Emily and Dylan Bowers, and Candace and Christopher Moneysmith; also a brother, James and wife Kay Moneysmith of Sarasota, Florida; Carol’s sisters and brother, Darlene Giebrecht of Homewood, Illinois; Sylvia Archer of New Richland, Minnesota; Richard Giesbrecht of Rowley, Iowa; daughter-in-law Judy Moneysmith) Michael’s wife) from Mundelein, Illinois, as well as cousins, nieces and nephews.

Services for Larry will be Friday, August 29, 2008, 11:00 am at the Earlham Friends Church, followed by graveside military services at Earlham cemetery, then lunch and visiting back at the church.
