BILL WATKINS, OSCEOLA

William Donald Watkins, 69, of Osceola died Aug. 24, 2008, at Clarke County Hospital in Osceola.

Funeral services were held today (Wednesday, Aug. 27) at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola with the Rev. Mark Woldruff officiating. Burial will be at Bethel Chapel Cemetery in Clarke County at a later date. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Osceola Senior Center.

Bill Watkins was born June 18, 1939, in Hampton to John Edwin and Carrie Mae (Morris) Watkins and received his education in the Truro School District. He also was awarded his Iowa DOT certification from Iowa State University as a flagger. His marriage to Irma Lee Sharp took place Sept. 30, 1960, in Winterset. Bill worked as a sawman for many road construction companies over the years before retiring in 2003. For the past 12 years, he and Irma lived in Osceola, prior to that, they resided in Winterset and Truro.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Roxanne Stephenson.

He is survived by his wife, Irma, of Osceola; one daughter, Beverly Vance of Lorimor; three sons, Bill Watkins Jr. of Norwalk, Dale Watkins of Winterset and Brian Watkins of Creston; two sisters, Eva Fortune of McComb, Ill., and Donna Snead of Truro; a brother, Ralph Watkins of Marion; and 18 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

William Watkins

William Donald Watkins, son of the late John Edwin Watkins and the late Carrie Mae Morris Watkins, was born June 18, 1939 in Hampton and passed from this life on Aug. 24, 2008 at Clarke County Hospital at 69 years of age.

William received his education in the Truro Schools and received his Iowa DOT Certification from Iowa State University as a Flagger. He was united in marriage to Irma Lee Sharp Sept. 30, 1960 in Winterset and five children blessed this union.

“Bill” worked as a Sawman for many road construction companies over the years before retiring in 2003. Bill and Irma have lived in Osceola for the past 12 years and prior to that they resided in Winterset and Truro. His favorite activities were watching movies, spending time with his family—especially family picnics and walking his dog “King.”

Those relatives who preceded “Bill” in death were his parents; daughter, Roxanne Stephenson; brother-in-law, Carl Snead; mother-in-law, Gladys Weaklend; and uncle Maurice Watkins.

He leaves to cherish his memory wife, Irma Watkins of Osceola; son, Bill Watkins Jr. and wife Cathy of Norwalk; daughter, Beverly Vance and friend Terry Jeffs of Lorimor; son, Dale Watkins and friend Kathy Philipson of Winterset; son, Brian Watkins and wife Becky of Creston; 18 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Eva Fortune and husband Ray of McComb, Ill., and Donna Snead of Truro; brother, Ralph Watkins and wife Shirley of Marion; three brothers-in-law, Larry Weakland (Becky), Gary and wife Vickie Weakland, Dennis and wife Doris Weakland, as well as other relatives and a host of friends.

Services will be held at Kale Funeral Home, Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2008 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Mark Woldruff officiating. Family will greet friends from 12:30 p.m. until service time on Wednesday at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola.

Interment will be Bethel chapel Cemetery in Clarke County at a later date.

Contributions may be made to the Osceola Senior Center.
