Obituary

Died, at her home near Knoxville, Iowa, Dec. 20, 1897, Mrs. Mary Tiernan Caffrey, aged 33 years, of lung trouble. Deceased leaves a husband and three small children. She was the oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Tiernan, of this county, and was married to Peter Caffrey in May, 1890.

The funeral services were held at the Catholic church at Knoxville, and the interment took place in St. Ambrose cemetery, Des Moines.
“Therefore she is immortally my bride. Chance cannot change nor time impair my love for her.”

These words were written years ago in her wedding announcements, and we re-write them over her grave.
