The many friends of Capt. William Anderson, of Ohio township, former member of our County Board, will be pained to learn of his serious, if not fatal, injury. On Monday of last week the Captain had his team harnessed and was going to get a load of rails. Passing through the gate of his barn yard the team refused to stop at command and were about to start to run. To stop them the Captain made an effort to seize the bridle bit but missed his aim and fell before the horses, and they and wagon passed over him. The Captain’s injuries are about the breast and internal. There are grave doubts entertained by his physicians as to his recovery. In common with all our people he has our deepest sympathy.

The Captain is one of our very best men—one you can rely upon all the time—a kind hearted friend—a sympathetic neighbor. With a large and open heart, public spirited, ever actuated by the best motives, he is the kind of a man society can ill afford to lose. He passed safely through the war, a true soldier and a faithful officer, and won the kindest regard of all in his command. May he speedily recover.

Later — Since the above was written the painful tidings reach us that Capt. Anderson died at half past six o’clock Saturday morning.

He was buried by the Masonic Fraternity at New Virginia the following day. He leaves a wife and eight children.
