Robert W. Henson (Bob), age 68, died July 20, 2008, of cancer at West Bridge Care & Rehabilitation. Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 23, at 11 a.m. at McCalley-Collins Funeral Home in Winterset. Burial was in Winterset Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to American Legion Post 184 or Middle River Hospice.
Bob was born Aug. 15, 1939, in Winterset to Wilmer R. and Irene E. Henson. He was a graduate of Winterset High School and a lifetime resident of Winterset. He married Wilma Wright on Sept. 3, 1961, in Winterset.
Bob served in the United States Army with the 101st Airborne Division, Screaming Eagles, receiving his paratrooper wings at Fort Campbell, Kentucky in 1964.
He was a heavy equipment operator all of his life, retiring from McAninch Corporation. He also was a member of I.U.O.E. Local 234 and American Legion Post 184 of Winterset.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Mary Fern Nuzum, Marjorie Jean Baker, and Rose Taylor. He is survived by his wife, Wilma; a sister, Elizabeth McCullough and husband Dale of Winterset; a brother, Don Henson and wife Judy of Waukee; and five brothers-in-law — Ray Nuzum, Dean Baker, Ron Taylor, and Jim Wright of Winterset and Robert Wright of New York. He also is survived by many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
