P. M. Shoop Dead.

S. E. Catterlin received a telegram from Abingdon, Illinois, Sunday, announcing the death of his father-in-law, Mr. P. M. Shoop, which occurred that day at his home in Abingdon, and in response to the sad news Mrs. Catterlin left Monday afternoon to attend the funeral.

Mr. Shoop was born in Franklin county, Pennsylvania, April 8th, 1823, from which place he moved to Abingdon, Illinois, where most of his life was spent. He was closely connected with Hedding college, at that place, having served as one of its trustees for more than twenty-five years.

In 1883 he moved with his family to Winterset he served two years as Mayor of the city. He will be remembered by his many friends at this place as a very kindly disposed Christian gentleman and the family will have the sympathy of all their Winterset friends and acquaintances in this sad hour of their bereavement.
