We are pained to announce the death of Mrs. J. C. Magee, the wife of the merchant upon the southeast corner of the square, who died Monday September 15. Mr. and Mrs. Magee had returned to their former home in Illinois, in the hopes that it might benefit their health, when Mrs. Magee was suddenly taken worse, and died.

MAGEE – September 15, 1879, at her sister’s, near Petersburg, Ill., Mrs. J. C. MAGEE, of this city.
Mrs. Magee had been suffering with dropsy all through the summer, her life having been despaired of a number of times, but she had so far rallied as to be able to gratify her intense desire to once more visit her friends and the home of her youth. She enjoyed this privilege with remarkable zest for nearly two weeks, when she was again prostrated, and after three days of terrible suffering passed calmly away.
Her faults were few, her virtues many. Prominent among them purity of life, and speech as well. She said: “Tell my friends not to grieve, but meet me in the Beautiful Mansion.”
