Achsa McCoy, born June 9, 1814, in Perquimans county, North Carolina, died January 10, 1902. When quite young she moved with her parents to Lawrence county, Indiana, where she was married on July 26, 1832, to James Crawford. They afterward moved to Polk county, Indiana, where they remained until the spring of 1855, when they came to this county.

She was left a widow the same year, her husband dying December 5, 1855. There were eight children born to this union, six daughters and two sons, several of whom have passed to the great beyond.

Aunt Achsa, as she was familiarly called, has passed a long life, being at the time of her death 87 years, 7 months and one day old. She was a faithful member of the Primitive Baptist church, and in spite of her advanced age was often seen in her place at church. Her sunny face will be missed in many homes where she went to visit. Always cheerful, she was a general favorite.
