Laid to Rest.

Mr. S. R. Young passes quietly away Tuesday, August 25th, after long suffering.

Samuel R. Young was born in Harford Co., Maryland, April 24th, 1821. He leaves a wife and ten children, five sons and five daughters, to mourn his death.

At the age of nine years Mr. Young moved with his parents from Maryland to Washington county, Penn. At the age of eighteen he started in life, learning the saddler’s trade. At the same age he united with the M. E. church and was a constant and faithful worker for the Lord from that time until his Savior said, “It is enough, come up higher.”

He was married at the age of twenty-three to Miss Sarah Roberts, near Hillsborough, Pa., Nov. 14th, 1844, moving from Pa. to Iowa in 1865, settling in Madison county, where they have lived ever since.

Mr. and Mrs. Young had lived together over fifty-one years. To them were born eleven children, six sons and five daughters; all are living except one son, who preceded his father about eight years. Four sons and two daughters were at his bed side when he passed away. A son and daughter living in Kansas were unable to be present at the funeral which was held at Peru at 11 o’clock a.m., Wednesday.

Deceased was stricken with palsy over two years ago and was a constant sufferer during that time, but not a word of complaint—he bore his affliction as a true soldier of the cross—waiting with patience for the Guardian Angel to guide him to the home where pain and sorrow never come.

Obituary

DIED - At his home in Winterset, Tuesday morning, Mr. Samuel R. Young.

Samuel Young was born in Harford county, Maryland, April 24, 1821, and departed this life August 25, 1896, at the age of 75 years, 4 months and 1 day. He leaves a wife and ten children to mourn his loss.

At the age of nine years Mr. Young moved with his parents from Maryland to Washington county, Pennsylvania. At the age of eighteen he started in life, doing business for himself, learning the saddler’s trade, in which he was a very successful and skillful workman. At the same age he gave his heart to God, uniting with the Methodist church, and was a constant and faithful worker for the Lord from that time until his Savior said: “It is enough; come up higher.”

He was married at the age of twenty-three to Miss Sarah Roberts, near Hillsborough, Pennsylvania, November 14, 1844, moving from Pennsylvania to Iowa in 1865 and settling in Madison county, where they have lived ever since.

Mr. and Mrs. Young have lived together more than fifty-one years. To them were born eleven children, six sons and five daughters. All are living except one son, who preceded his father eight years. Like his father, he was a true follower of the Lord, being at home in church and Sabbath school work. Four sons and two daughters were at his bedside when he passed away.

Mr. Young leaves a large circle of friends to mourn his death. The deceased was stricken with palsy over two years ago, and was a constant sufferer during that time, but not a word of complaint passed his lips. He bore his affliction as a true soldier of the cross, waiting with patience for the Guardian Angel to guide him to the home where pain and sorrow never come. He was a valiant church worker and rested content in prayers and praises of the Lord.

His remains were followed by a large concourse of sorrowing friends to the Peru cemetery, where they were laid to rest.
