Winterset Madisonian – May 22, 1896
Pg 3George, the oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Amos Fife, old residents of South township, died of hemorrhage of the lungs on Wednesday afternoon, at the home of his parents, two miles north of St. Charles. About last Christmas his health began to fail, owing, it was thought, to the effect of la grippe, from which he had suffered some time previous, and about one month ago his disease had apparently merged into consumption. He was then compelled to take his bed, and from that time failed rapidly until relieved by death. He was about forty-three years of age, had never married, but remained a kind, moral, unassuming and industrious member of his father’s home. Funeral occurred on Thursday afternoon. Services were conducted by Rev. Ewan at the residence. Burial at the St. Charles cemetery.
