Obituary.

In memory of our respected uncle, R. D. Cooper, aged 56 years, who departed this life September 19, 1879, at his residence in Ottawa county, Kansas.

His Christian character was distinguished by the same retiring disposition and manner which marked his whole deportment. For many years he was a consistent member of the M. E. church in this county. His religion was not like the meteor of night, that confounds and dazzles for a moment, and then vanishes, but it was calm, steady and active. It displayed itself in the vigilant fidelity with which he guarded the interests of his family, in the fortitude with which he sustained the most severe afflictions, and in the cheerful submission which he manifested in the prospect of death. He has left an evidence to his friends that he has gone to be with God in that cloudless home beyond the skies.
