WALTER BRANT SR., OSCEOLA

Walter Gordon Brant Sr., 83, of Osceola and a longtime resident of Truro, died April 18, 2008, at Winterset Care Center North.

Services were held today (Wednesday, April 23) at the Truro UCC Church with Dr. John Shaull officiating. Inurnment of his cremains will be at a later date in Young Cemetery, Truro. Memorials may be directed to the Winterset Care Center North Activities Fund or Middle River Hospice in Winterset. Arrangements were handled by Kale Funeral Homes of Osceola and Truro.

Walter Brant was born Oct. 10, 1924, to John Ervin and R. Eva (Hammans) Brant of rural Truro. He attended Oak Run Country School, graduating from Truro High School. His marriage to Jeannine Mae Roland took place Aug. 22, 1948, in Truro. Walter farmed and was a member of the Truro Lions Club, North American Limousin Association and the Truro UCC Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife; two sisters, Marie Brant and Freda Brant; and a brother, William Brant.

He is survived by two daughters, Barbara Finley of Truro and Carol Brant; two sons, Bud Brant and Brian Dale Brant, both of Osceola; a brother, John Brant of Truro; and nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Walter Gordon Brant Sr., son of John Ervin Brant and R. Eva (Hammans) Brant, was born Oct. 10, 1924, on a farm near Truro. He passed from this life on April 18, 2008, at the Winterset Care Center North in Winterset. He was 83.

Walter attended Oak Run Country School and graduated from Truro High School. He married Jeannine Mae Roland on Aug. 22, 1948, at Truro. Four children blessed this union.

Walter was a farmer and enjoyed being outdoors. He was a member of Truro Lions Club, the North American Limousin Association and the Truro UCC Church.

Walter was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jeannine; sisters, Marie Brant and Freda Brant; and brother William Brant. He leaves to cherish his memory, daughter, Barbara Finley and husband Ray of Truro; son, Bud Brant and wife Frances of Osceola; daughter, Carol Brant; son, Brian Dale Brant and wife Becky of Osceola; brother, John Brant and wife Mary of Truro; sister-in-law, Joan Mease and husband John of Truro; nine grandchildren, Rick Finley and wife Bobbie, Bobbi Hartfield and husband Ron, Brenda Finley and Alex, Jennifer Brant, Stephanie Morris and husband Brett, Melissa Hodge and husband David, Angela Gehringer and fiance Jake Miller, Tyler Gehringer and Kayla Brant; 12 great-grandchildren, Ricky, Johnny, Holly, Taylor, Jordan, Damen, Haley, Hunter, Brant, Jack, Logan and Chloe; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were April 23, 2008, at Truro UCC Church in Truro with Dr. John Shaull officiating. Peggy Phillips accompanied vocalists Dave Rocky and Eldon Schultz singing “In The Garden” and “The Old Rugged Cross.” Casket bearers were Mark Mease, Bill Kerns, Steve Sandquist, Gary Kerns, Eric Brant and Terry Brant. Cremation will follow the services and burial of his cremains will be in the Young Cemetery at a later date.

Contributions may be made to the Winterset Care Center North activities fund or Middle River Hospice in Winterset. Kale Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
