Mr. E. O. Burt, a former well known and highly respected citizen of Winterset, died very suddenly of heart failure, at his home in Des Moines, on last Saturday afternoon. He had been slightly ill for a time, but no serious result was anticipated. Mr. Burt was born in Indiana, and came to this county in 1863.
During the war he served three years in the 10th Indiana infantry, and when his period of enlistment was expired he re-enlisted as a veteran.
He served four years as clerk of Madison county, having previously been deputy clerk. During the latter part of his residence here he was in the abstract and loan business.
About twelve years ago he removed to Des Moines, where he has since been connected with the Iowa Loan and Trust Company. While living here he was an active member of the Presbyterian church, and at the time of his death he was an elder in one of the Des Moines churches.
He leaves a wife and one daughter, Lillian, to whom the sympathy of their former townspeople in Winterset is deep and heartfelt.
