County and City

A little boy named Burton Cowan, aged four years, whose parents live two miles northwest of town, died last Sunday, and was buried yesterday. He had a severe case of membraneous croup which seemed sure to end fatally, and as a last resort and at the desire of the parents the operation of tracheotomy was performed by Doctors Embree and Nelson, though they feared that the child could not survive it. Yet as death was pretty sure to result in any case, it was decided to try it, but the child did not live through the operation.

John Cowan’s visit to his old home in Cascade was shortened by summons last Friday to attend the bedside of his 4 year old son at Winterset, and on Monday the sad news was received here that the child had died that morning.

Some months ago the little fellow had been ill with lung fever, and had never fully recovered. It was a sad blow to the loving parents, and the sympathy of their friends in this vicinity is in with them in their bereavement
