James L. Collins, Sr., 73, passed away on Thursday, April 3, 2008 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center. Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m., Monday at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd with burial at Resthaven Cemetery.

Jim was born March 9, 1935 in Des Moines and had lived in Albuquerque, NM, Ft. Worth TX and Earlham, IA since 1995. He was a project manager for Waldinger Corp. for 12 years, Sr. Vice-President of Backman Sheet Metal in West Des Moines for twelve years and Sr. Vice-President of National Sheet Metal in Albuquerque, NM for ten years retiring in 1995.

Jim was a U.S. Marine veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Local 45 in Des Moines and Local 49 in Albuquerque where he was past president of the Sheet Metal Contractor's National Association. He was a member of Southgate Masonic Lodge and the Square Dance Association in Des Moines as well as an avid hunter, fisherman and NASCAR fan - favoring Jeff Gordon. He loved his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was very involved in their activities.

Jim is survived by his wife, Eva "Eve" of Earlham; two daughters, Julie (Doug) Oscarson and Linda (Don) Gray-Hill, both of Earlham; a son, James L. Collins, Jr. of West Des Moines; sister, Judy Stahl of Houston, TX; three brothers, Michael (Rachel) Collins of San Diego, CA, Lee (Wanda) Blankenship of Dover, DE and Robert G. Blankenship of Tulsa, OK; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Collins and Ireka (Harrison) Blankenship and his sister, Janice De Sante.

Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m., Sunday at McLaren's Chapel.
