SARAH J. GAMBLE

Sarah J. Gamble was born in Franklin county, Pennsylvania, Oct. 11, 1825 and passed away at the home of her sister, Mrs. Martha Blosser, near Patterson, Iowa, Oct. 26, 1917, aged 82 years and 15 days.

She was the oldest of a family of seven children, two of whom have preceded her to the home beyond. She leaves to mourn her loss, two brothers, John of Apache, Okla., and Michael of Winterset; and two sisters, Mrs. C. H. Blosser and Mrs. James McMichael of Patterson, Iowa, with a host of other relatives and friends.

She united with the Associate Reformed church, of Richmond, Ohio, at an early age. In 1854, she moved with her parents to Madison county. She became a member of the United Presbyterian church of Patterson, and after the church at that place was disorganized, she united with the same denomination at St. Charles, of which she was a consistent member until her death. Although of a retiring disposition, she was one of the successful pioneer school teachers of Madison county, having taught the first school in Crawford township.

The funeral services were held at the home, Sunday, Oct. 28th, conducted by her pastor, Rev. Robert McElroy of the St. Charles U.P. church.

Note: Burial was at Montpelier cemetery.
