MRS. JENNIE MILLER WORTHING

The Miller family came to Winterset in 1884. The family consisted of six children, all boys except Jennie, the youngest. She was born in Illinois in 1867. She was married to O. J. Beerbower in 1887. Mr. Beerbower died in 1910. She was married to B. A. Worthing in 1914.

With the exception of a few years residence in Des Moines, her home was in Winterset, since coming to the state. Last winter, Mr. and Mrs. Worthing spent several months in the south. When they returned in the spring she was not in her usual health. The malady from which she suffered rapidly increased in virulence and her suffering became so severe that she reluctantly consented to go to a Des Moines hospital for an operation, from the effects of which she died last Thursday, Sept. 20, 1917.

One son, Albert Beerbower, who now resides in Des Moines, was with her in her last illness and present at the funeral. Quite a number of relatives and friends of the family were at the funeral services, which were held at the Methodist church Sunday afternoon, Rev. M. M. Cable officiating.

Some of the people residing out of town, who were present were: Mrs. Geo. W. Miller and son and wife, Dr. McGuire and son, Mrs. Mason and others from Des Moines. The Worthing family from about Truro, were practically all present, as follows: John Worthing and wife, Oscar Creger and wife, W. F. Bradshaw and wife, Mrs. Thos. Queen and Mrs. Blanche Fansler.

Mrs. Jennie Miller Worthing died at the age of 50 years at the Lutheran hospital in Des Moines, on Thursday, Sept. 20th, after an illness of a year and an operation. She was the youngest child of “Father” Miller, so well known in the Methodist church life of this county in early days.

Four years after the death of her husband, O. J. Beerbower, she was married to B. A. Worthing, who survives her; also one son, Albert Beerbower. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon in the Methodist church with Rev. Cable officiating.

Mrs. Worthing’s friends were many, for her lifetime was spent here. She possessed a strong mentality, which made her a valued member in social and church affairs. Her neighbors will miss her greatly because of her interest in them and their welfare.
