A sad Death

Mrs. Thos. McDonald, nee Carrie Cocklin, died at her home in Douglas township on last Monday night, the 10th inst., after a very brief illness. This is a peculiarly pathetic affliction, and has touched all hearts with sympathy for the young husband who on last Christmas day was united to the bride of whom he is now bereaved just before the recurrence of the happy holiday season.

Mrs. McDonald had been perfectly well until Sunday evening, when she was visiting at the house of a relative. Shortly after returning home she was taken violently ill, and lived but twenty-four hours. The funeral was held on Wednesday. A very large procession attended the remains to the Winterset cemetery.

Obituary

Mrs. Carrie M. McDonald has answered to her Master’s call and left her earthly home sad and lonely. She had scarcely entered upon her wedded life when the death angel came. Her young life had not reached its zenith, and she leaves her loving husband to realize the sad lament that “In the midst of life we are in death.”

Her parents, J. W. and Mary Cocklin, and two brothers, are left empty handed only to recall her bright smile and comforting words in their hours of sadness. None can ever fill her place to them. All who knew her learned to love her pure earnest life.

She was born Feb. 3, 1874 and died Dec. 10, 1894. She united with the Baptist church at Winterset in 1889, and was married to James T. McDonald, Dec. 25, 1893.
