County and City

George Thomas Mardis, the little nine months old son of Mr. and Mrs. John Mardis, passed away in death at their home in Des Moines, on Tuesday evening last. The death of the child took place about ten o’clock. The child had never been strong, even from his birth, and at no time was there much hope that it would outgrow the heart trouble which had come into its young life. And although it appeared all last week in its usual health, the end came suddenly on Tuesday night.

The remains of the little one were brought to Winterset on Wednesday evening, and on Thursday morning at half past ten o’clock, the funeral took place at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Ratliff, in this city, the father and mother of Mrs. Mardis. The funeral was a large one, the services, being conducted by Rev. T. W. Howard. The house was filled with many beautiful floral tributes sent in by neighbors and friends.

Mr. and Mrs. Mardis have the sympathy of all in the bereavement that has come upon them. Both of them grew up in this city from childhood, and consequently their sorrow is the sorrow of the entire community.
