John J. Boller

John J. Boller, son of Jacob and Catherine Boller, was born at Hamilton, Ohio, on February 27, 1851 and passed away at his home at Truro, on April 5, 1935 at the age of 84 years, one month and 18 days.

He was the oldest son of one of Iowa’s early pioneer families, his father being born in Ohio, his mother in France. They came to Iowa in 1856. (Note: Transcriber believes 1856 is correct, but this date is hard to read in the obituary)

He received his early education in the rural schools, finishing at Iowa City and for several years of his younger life was a teacher.

On January 17, 1878, he married Margaret Myers. They began their married life at Kalona, Iowa, later moving to Adams County where most of their family was raised. They had spent the past twenty one years at Truro.

He was a firm believer in the Bible, having his church membership in the Baptist church at Corning, Iowa.

His companion having passed away just four months ago, he leaves his family of eleven children: Mabel Davitt and Merce Chappell of Hopedale, Ohio, Maude Selvedge of Van Horn, Texas; Lillian Carpenter of Glendale, California, Lora Day of Sacramento, California, Bessie Fletcher, Eldred, Sask., Canada, Ed and Earl of Denton, Montana, Jack of Gillette, Wyoming, Jess of Oakland, California, and Norman of Truro. Besides his family of children and grandchildren he leaves his three brothers, other relatives and many friends.

We will all miss him and this broken home.
