Services for Richard "Bud" Farr, 54, longtime Winterset barber, who died May 15 at the Madison County Memorial Hospital, were held Wednesday, May 18 at the First Christian Church with the Rev. Jerry Zanker and the Rev. Charles Updike officiating. Burial was at the Winterset Cemetery.
Born Dec. 20, 1928 in Murray, he was the son of Orvel and Hazel Cone Farr. He was graduated from Murray High School with the class of 1947. In 1948 he enlisted in the Navy and served in Korea and Hawaii, being discharged in 1952.
He entered barber college in Des Moines and came to Winterset in April of 1953. He was married in Murray, July 4, 1953 to Carolyn Carper of Osceola. He was an apprentice barber under Al Jones and Guile Moore at the North Side Barber Shop and in 1959 he and Fred Niesimier purchased the shop in joint partnership.
Mr. Farr was an ardent sportsman, being active for many years in Winterset Little League from its beginning and in hunting and fishing. He was a member of the Odd Fellows, American Legion, VFW, the Lakeview Country Club and the First Christian Church.
Survivors include his wife; sons, Jeffery and Jerry, both of Winterset; sisters, June Twohig, Fond Du Lac, Wis., Jean Davenport, Des Moines and Janice Halls, Weldon.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Military graveside services were conducted by American Legion Green Rogers post and V.F.W. post 5142.
