MINNIE GEAR OF WINTERSET DIES

Long Time Resident of Barney Community Was 82 Years of Age

Mrs. Minnie E. Gear, a life-long resident of Madison county and a resident of Winterset since 1957 died last Thursday September 22 at Memorial Hospital in Winterset. She was 82 years of age.

Mrs. Gear was born in this county March 1, 1884, the daughter of Henry C. and May Broderick Leasman. Her early life was spent in the Barney community where she taught school as a young woman.

She was married to Clarence Gear on August 19, 1911 at Creston. They spent their active years farming at Barney, but retired and moved into Winterset in 1957. Her only child, a daughter, Mrs. Geraldine Sullivan died that year also. She was a member of the Barney Christian Church.

Mrs. Gear leaves five grandchildren; five great grandchildren and a brother, Jess Leasman of Peru.

Funeral services were held Saturday from Collins Funeral Home in Winterset conducted by Rev. Jack Douglas of Des Moines. Burial was made in Barney cemetery.
