SISTERS BURIED TOGETHER TUESDAY

Double Sorrow in Imboden Home in Penn Township

Two deaths but one day apart brought double sorrow to the Imboden home in Penn township during the past week, Lovie Imboden aged 53, dying on Saturday and her sister, Mary, aged 52, dying the following day.

The elder sister's death was due to erysipelas, and the younger sister died from pneumonia. Both suffered but a few days illness and the younger passed away unconscious of the fact that her elder sister and constant companion since childhood had preceded her.

The two sisters with their brother, Ed, were unmarried, and with their widowed mother, Mrs. Louisa Imboden, made up a happy home circle on a Penn township farm, known to the older generation as the Washington Francis place.

The elder Imbodens came to Penn township in 1866, emigrating from Holmes county, Ohio, which furnished many of the substantial men and women who were prominent in the early history of this county. The two sisters, whose death is here recorded were held in high regard in the Penn Center community and were active in church and community activities.

Double funeral and burial services were held at Penn Center church on Tuesday afternoon and the assemblage of friends and neighbors was one of the largest ever held at that place.

Lovie Jane Imboden
Mary Ann Imboden

Lovie Jane and Mary Ann Imboden, beloved daughters of Mrs. Louisa Imboden of Penn Center, were born in Penn township, Madison county, Iowa, where they have always lived. Many endearing ties and a multitude of friends honor their memory. Lovie Jane Imboden was born Feb. 5, 1871 and passed to her crowning Nov. 30, 1924, after a brief period of intense but patient suffering. Twenty-seven hours later, her sister, Mary Ann Imboden, passed to her eternal home. She was born Oct. 28, 1872 and joined her sister in the life beyond Nov. 30, 1924. The sisters were both devout Christians, having united with the Methodist Episcopal church in their early life and were faithful and interested in all the work of the church, rendering willing service unto their Lord until the day of their crowning. No word of compliant nor unkindly deed made their beautiful and simple Christian lives as seen by many deeds of kindness. They took an especial interest in the local church at Penn Center and cheerfully served in many helpful ways. Lovie faithfully filled the office of treasurer of the Ladies' Aid society, while Mary served in other helpful ways. They like Martha and Mary of old, lived and served their Lord and Savior, doing many of the little Christian acts that add beauty to the Christian life.

Since the death of the father in 1908, they have cared for their aged mother, and assisted by their brother, Edwin, have kept the home, making life worth while by their devotion to duty. Their places cannot be filled and they will be greatly missed in the life of our church and community, but they will be richer by far in the joy of that more abundant above.

They are survived by their aged mother, one sister and four brothers: Julius of Holly, Colo.; Mrs. Cora Boyle, Edwin, Fred and Roy Imboden of Penn Center community and a host of friends. Double funeral services, conducted by Rev. J. W. Harwood, were held at the Penn Center Methodist church on Tuesday and interment made in the cemetery nearby.
