1965Last Rites Were Held Nov. 2 for Lydia Gardner of Mingo
Mrs. Charles D. (Lydia L.) Gardner, 81, a resident of northwest Jasper county since 1919 died Saturday evening at the Jasper county home near Newton.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday Nov. 2nd at the Boyd-Nickell Funeral Home at Baxter.
The Rev. Arthur Koon of Des Moines conducted the services. Burial was in Greencastle cemetery, Mingo.
Survivors are five sons, Guy of Mingo, Fred of Baxter, Forrest of Fallon, Nev., Dessie (Bill) of Wells, Nev., and Robert of LaPunte, Calif., a daughter, Mrs. Donald (Mary) Scoville of Cedar Falls, Ia.; 15 grandchildren; and 33 great grandchildren.
Also surviving are two brothers, John F. Neely of Reno, Nev., and Ferol P. Neely of Alden; and four sisters, Mrs. Clark (Hazel) Watkins of Grinnell; Mrs. Gertrude Smith of Lorimor; Florence Neely of Winterset and Mrs. Vera L. Stevens of Bellflower, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her husband in October 1964; parents; two brothers; and two sisters.
The daughter of Pinkney and Sarah Neely, she was born May 28, 1884 at Murray and attended Union county schools near Lorimor.
She was married to Charles D. Gardner Nov. 7, 1900 at Winterset.
After their marriage they farmed near Winterset and in 1919 moved to a farm west of Mingo. They moved to Mingo after retiring in 1946.
She was a member of the Four Square Gospel Church in Mingo.
Music was provided by Mrs. Donnell Deutsch at the organ and Mrs. Max Butler who sang.
Pall bearers were Duane Gardner, Ronald Gardner, Milo Bylund, Kenneth Watson, Wesley Smith and Larry Neely.
