Obituary

Jacob Leinard was born in Harrison county, Ohio, Dec. 15, 1810. His early life was spent on his father’s farm near Moorefield. He was united in marriage with Hester Ruby in 1830, and together they labored and walked the paths of life for nearly fifty years. They moved from Ohio to Madison county, Iowa, in 1852. About five years ago Mother Leinard was called from labor to rest. Leinard, at the death of his faithful companion, seemed to relax his hold almost entirely upon the affairs of this world, and disposing of his property, he waited patiently for the chance which he felt sure would soon come and on the 12th day of May, 1893, a few minutes before four o’clock p.m., surrounded by weeping children and sympathizing neighbors, he quietly fell asleep in Jesus.

Father Leinard was a man of strong convictions and had an abiding faith in God as his father, and Christ as his redeemer. He was converted in early life, and for about thirty years was an active member of the Methodist Episcopal church.

During the last winter he was confined to his home, only seeing those who called upon him. As spring advanced he gradually grew weaker, until after a brief illness he was called home. Of his six children, four survive, two having died in infancy. May God comfort the bereaved.

The funeral at the home was conducted by Rev. A. C. Heckathorn, assisted by Rev. Fred Harris, and he was laid to rest in the Winterset cemetery.
