UrbandaleHerb DeBok of 7213 Ridgemont Drive, Urbandale, passed away on January 18, 2008. Family and friends may attend visitation Sunday, January 20, 3 to 5 at Westover Funeral Home, 6337 Hickman Road, Des Moines. A memorial service will be held Monday January 21, 10:30 a.m. at Westover Funeral Home with a graveside military service immediately following at Montpelier Cemetery located in Prole, Iowa.
Mr. DeBok was born in Prole, Iowa and moved to Des Moines after being discharged from the service in 1946. He lived in Urbandale for 53 years. He graduated from AIB and began his career in business at Foreman Ford & Company, where he worked until 1983. He then worked as a real estate agent for Iowa Realty for ten years. Throughout his business career, he also owned and managed several coin-operated laundromats and dry cleaners throughout the state including the Des Moines area.
Herb enlisted in the army in June 1944 after the bombing of Pearl Harbor and was discharged as a Tech Sgt. in June 1946. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Za-Ga-Zig Shrine, Court of Jesters, Scottish Rite, the VFW, American Legion, and Urbandale United Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife Marylou DeBok, three daughters; Kimberly DeBok of Georgetown, TX, Candace Berkley of Grimes, IA and Lisa DeBok of Shawnee, KS; eight grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and three sisters: Leota Lull, Leona Lyon, and Mayola Wetzel.
