Mrs. George Eyerly, of Douglas township, died last Monday, and was buried on Tuesday at the Winterset cemetery. The sad news was something of a surprise, for though she had been quite sick last summer, it was not general known that her condition was serious at present.

Obituary

Died, October 21, 1892, Mrs. Martha Angeline Eyerly, nee Howell, aged 43 years, 8 months and 5 days. She was born in Coshocton county, Ohio. She was joined in marriage to Mr. George W. Eyerly, December 9, 1865.

Mrs. Eyerly was a worthy woman who was held in the highest esteem by all who knew her, and those who knew her best appreciated her most. She possessed a benevolent disposition and took delight in relieving the needy. In short, she was a “good Samaritan.” She was neither elated with prosperity nor depressed by adversity. The light of her cheerfulness was shed upon all around her. Her smile was sunshine indeed, both smoothing the furrows of anxiety and lifting the burden of care in the realm of home she ruled with love and tenderness, and to husband and children hers was the most faithful and constant devotion. She represented the highest type of Christian character. She was religious from childhood, and could not recall the date of her conversion. She has long been a faithful member of the Methodist church. She was an earnest student of the bible. She loved the scriptures, and seemed to have a correct understanding of their meaning and her religion was manifested more in deeds than in words. She died in triumph, being perfectly conscious that her departure was near. She called her family around her and bade them farewell, and told her children to be good children, and with their father to meet her in heaven. The funeral was held in the home, and she was buried in the Winterset cemetery.
