In Memoriam

Mr. James Kennedy was born in county Derry, Ireland, May 14, 1813. He emigrated in this county in 1834, and settled in Philadelphia, Pa., where he remained sixteen years. November 16th, 1848, he was married to Eleanor Ann Furgueson, from whom he was parted by death January 31, 1875. In 1850 Mr. Kennedy removed with his family to Logan county, Ohio, where he remained two years. In 1856 he came to Porter county, Indiana, where he remained until 1862, when he removed to Madison county, Iowa, and to this farm where he died, May 30th, 1892.

Four children, Joseph C., and Mrs. Tiltis Small, of Iowa, and John L., and Anna F., of California, remain to mourn his death. Three and a beloved wife have already gone before to welcome him into the everlasting habitation.

Mr. Kennedy was a life-long member of the United Presbyterian church and its antecedents, the Seceder and Associate churches. Whilst in Philadelphia he was a trustee in Dr. Cooper’s church and was ever a faithful and consistent Christian. Through all his sickness he was patient and hopeful, rejoicing in God his Savior. Truly, “blessed are the dead who die in the Lord”.

Note: Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
