Martensdale Men Killed Near Mt. Ayr

Tilton Pearl Stroud, 81, and his grandson Robert Dean Stroud, both of Martensdale, were killed Friday when their car collided with a Chicago, Burlington and Quincy freight train at the east edge of Mt. Ayr.

The car was traveling south on highway 169 at the time of the accident.

David Strable, 19 of St. Joseph who was riding in the car, received a fractured hip and foot and was taken to Ringgold County Hospital at Mt. Ayr. He is also a grandson of the elder Mr. Stroud.

Funeral services for Robert Stroud were held this afternoon at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Martensdale. Burial was at Blair Chapel Cemetery.

He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. H. (Herb) Stroud of Martensdale; a brother, DeWayne Stroud of West Union; and a sister, Mrs. Robert Garnett of Des Moines.

Services for Tilton Stroud will be held at the Martensdale Community Church Tuesday at 2 p.m. with burial at the Wick cemetery.

He is survived by four sons, E. H. and Hugh of Martensdale, Harvey of Indianola and Maurice of Lexington, Ill.; one daughter, Mrs. Eva Manson Strable of St. Joseph, Mo.; 13 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Clevie McBride, who lives in Missouri.
