Obituary

Mrs. Martha Shepherd was born in Putnam county, Indiana, Oct. 24, 1828, and died in Winterset, Iowa, Oct. 3, 1891, thus being just a few days less than 63 years of age. She was of a Christian family, and united with the M. E. church very early in life, but it was not until 1857, after removing to this county that she united together with her husband, with the church at Winterset. She was married Nov. --, 1847, to Jesse P. Shepherd, and to them there were born ten children, six of whom are alive.

With her husband she removed to Madison county in 1855, and with the exception of brief intervals spent in Kansas and Indiana, they have continued to live in this county. Several years ago an attack of fever left her an invalid and her condition has been worse in recent years. For nearly a year she has been helpless and after months of sickness has gone where there is no night but where with -------- mind she can behold the King in His beauty.

She was buried from the residence in the northwest part of town on Sunday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock, her pastor, Rev. C. L. Nye, officiating.
