Diptheria is very bad in Des Moines at present. Charles Scallenger and wife lost their only child, Luther, by it. He was interred at the Patterson cemetery last Sunday evening, the undertaker of Des Moines being the only one accompanying the corpse. By a mistake of the Bevington telephone management, none of the relatives were notified, and there were none to receive the remains, and no preparation for burial when the undertaker arrived with them.

Coordinator's note: Surname on gravestone is "Skellenger".
