William Young

William Young was born in West Virginia July 19, 1833 and died at his home near Middle River, Madison county, Iowa Feb. 7, 1917, aged 83 years, 5 months and 12 days.

In an early day he, with his parents, moved to Goshen county, Missouri. Then in 1845 when he came to Des Moines and later moved to Warren county, where he was united in marriage to Lucinda Snyder, May 13, 1851. To this union were born 8 sons and 2 daughters, six of whom are living: Fremont, who lives at York, N. D., Thornton in Warren county; Oscar, William and Hugh, who with their sister Mrs. John Gamble live near him. Besides these he leaves many relatives to mourn his loss. All with their aged and broken hearted mother were with him at the last, except Fremont who was here to see him two weeks past.

Everything was done that kind and loving hands could do. Besides his six children, he leaves 37 grand children, 13 great grandchildren and one brother, 70 years old, who lives at San Francisco.

William Young was converted and united with the United Brethren church in Warren county in 1861. To that faith he has always held until his death.

He was a loving husband and a kind and affectionate father, and was a great lover of children, and nothing could please him better than to have his children and grandchildren around him. His home was always open to his friends and neighbors. Among his last words were: "I am not afraid to die, I am ready to go when the summons comes." Although he suffered intense pain for three weeks, the end came peacefully and without a struggle.

Funeral services were conducted from the home Friday Feb. 9th at 11 o'clock by Rev. Grigsby and interment was made in the Wight cemetery.
