A sad accident occurred at this place on Saturday the 12th, by which Frank Neeland, step son of Jacob Decker met death. Frank was a deaf mute 20 years old. He was returning from Sim Decker's and was met by the local freight just beyond the curve south of here, walking with his head down and being unable to hear the approaching train, which had not time to stop after he stepped on the track. He was struck in the side and hurled 12 feet to one side of the track. The train men brought him back to town. Dr. Painter was summonded and everything that could be done for the sufferer was done but in just six hours after the accident he was a corpse. The funeral sermon was preached in the M. E. church to an overflowing house by Rev. W. C. Smith.
