We have just learned of the sudden death of Wm. Early, of southern Kansas. Mr. Early will be remembered as a former resident of this county. He had gone out to look after his cattle, about four hundred head, and not returning as soon as expected to, his wife went out to the stock yards and found him dead.

Wm. Early, a well known citizen of Chelsea, was found dead In his cattle corral, where he had gone after breakfast to look at his stock. He had been quite sick some weeks ago but had recovered and was looking after business affairs in his usual vigorous manner. His long absence from the house caused his family to investigate and he was discovered lying on the ground, dead.
Mr. Early was a prominent man in his community and a good citizen. His death comes as a shock and surprise to his numerous friends.
The funeral of Wm. Early will occur from his late home near Chelsea, on Friday. His daughter, Mrs. Dr. H. E. Pearse, is with her husband attending a meeting of medicos in Denver. They reside In Kansas City. Another daughter, Miss Eva, lives In Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Mr. Early was born in Ohio 62 years ago. Some 25 years ago he moved to Iowa and thence to Texas. He became a resident of this county in 1885.

The sudden death of Wm. Early at his home near Chelsea, on December 29th, deprived the community of an honorable and respected man and citizen. Those who knew him best testify to his sterling character as an upright man. He was truly a devoted husband and a loving father. As a neighbor and friend he very often sacrificed his own ease and interests to that of others. He was a good citizen. He was an enterprising man and the community was a beneficiary of his business acumen and energy. It will miss him.
Wm. Early was born in Trumbull county, Ohio, May 3rd. 1839. With his parents he moved to Madison county, Iowa, in 1855. He was married to Miss Catherine Stewart in 1860 and she survives him.
He responded to his county's call in November, 91 (sic), enlisting in the 4th Iowa Cavalry. In the spring of 62, he was promoted to the position of 2nd Lieutenant; in the spring of 63 he was made 1st Lieutenant. In 64, when it was known the Rebellion was crushed, he was discharged for disabilities incurred in the line of duty.
After the war he resided in Iowa until February, 1873 when he took his family to Texas and in 1883 he came to Butler county, since then residing at Chelsea.
He is at rest; in "the windowless abode of the dead his body lies; his spirit dwells with immortals in that home not made with hands. All earthly gladness and joy, all earthly regrets and griefs are swept away.
