Obituary

Samuel Beerbower was born in Maryland, December 3, 1824. When about twenty years of age he moved to Ohio, and lived for many years in Marion county, where on November 17, 1853, he was married to Jane Huggins. In 18—he removed to Winterset, Iowa, where he lived the rest of his life, his death occurring October 18, 1890.

To Mr. and Mrs. Beerbower were born three children, two of whom are still living, their oldest daughter, Ollie, having died in this city some eleven years ago.

Mr. Beerbower was a faithful member of the Methodist Episcopal church for about forty years, and always maintained the most upright Christian character, having the respect and esteem of every one with whom he came in contact. He filled at different times nearly all the official positions in the church, and always faithfully and efficiently.

His death resulted from a long and painful sickness, which had lasted since the 27th of last June. During that time, though making occasional apparent starts toward recovery, he gradually sank, at times suffering greatly, though his last few hours were painless and peaceful, as he quietly passed away in the assured hope of a glorious resurrection.

Death of Samuel Beerbower

Samuel Beerbower, for twenty years a citizen of Winterset, died of heart disease at his residence last Sunday morning. He had been sick for several months and was unable to leave the house. His death for the past month was momentarily expected. The funeral occurred Monday and was largely attended.

The deceased was on of the best business men of Winterset and he was for years identified with its best interests. He was a member of the Methodist church of this city and was one of its strongest supports. He was a member of the Masonic order and took a strong interest in its work until age and feeble health interfered. He was a careful and conservative businessman and he carried the same honesty into his business that characterized his whole life. No man in the city had more friends and no man ever spoke an ill word of him. He made a brave fight against death and met it like a man. By his death this town loses a splendid citizen.
