County and City

Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Francis, who started last May from this county to go to Washington by team, reached their destination a few weeks ago. They had just got settled down, when their little child became sick and died. They brought the body back to Winterset for burial. They arrived here Wednesday on the morning train. The funeral services were held at the First Christian church Thursday at 2:30. We are not informed as to when they expect to return to Washington.

Obituary

Orpha Lenore, little daughter of W. T. and Etta Francis was called to her “Home beyond the river,” near the middle of September. In the two short years of her baby life she did her work, for no one could see her happy face that wore a smile for everybody, and was always like sunshine, without feeling life’s burden lifting.

The hopes of parents and loving friends centered in the affectionate child. Although slight physically she developed rapidly intellectually and when the hand of disease touched her she sank beneath it after only a few days of suffering.

To the stricken parents among strangers on the western coast the grief was crushing when they could think they felt that the current of life was changed and that it was necessary to return to Iowa. They brought the “earthly house” of their Lenore to Winterset to be laid to rest and her gentle spirit went to live with our Heavenly Father and that Saviour who took little children in his arms and blessed them and there God will keep our darling and train her soul in his home. We know not what we shall be “but we know we shall be like him” and with our eye upon such a prize we will “run the race with patience that is set before us.”
