William Martin, an old resident of Jackson township, and father of John Martin of this place, died last Thursday.

Died at his residence in Jackson township Thursday March 13, 1890, Wm. Martin, aged 74 years, 3 months and 25 days. He was born in Ireland November 18, 1815, and while very young moved with his parents to the United Sates, locating for a while in Washington county, Pennsylvania. Several years later he moved to near Burlington, Iowa. In the spring of 1857 he moved with his family to the late residence in Jackson township, Warren county, Iowa.

He had much natural ability and good common sense, which well fitted him for the duties of the several township and county offices which he filled with honor. On moral and religious questions he took the position in front for right and justice. Early in life he connected with the United Presbyterian church and was a consistent, earnest and conscientious member. For 24 years he had been a ruling elder of the U.P. congregation at St. Charles. For 5 days before his death, his sufferings were very great, yet he never complained, and was very patient and resigned to the Divine will.

Geo. Martin, of Superior, Nebraska, and T.C. Martin, of David City, Nebraska, sons of Wm. Martin, were here to attend the funeral.
