CALIFORNIA RITES FOR MABEL CLOPTON

Mrs. Mabel Clopton, the eldest of the children of Charles and Frances Seidel Cleland, was born at Bevington on September 26, 1889 and died at the Lindsay, California District Hospital on June 9 at the age of 78. Her early life was spent in Bevington.

She was married to Thomas G. Clopton in Winterset. They were the parents of two children, Ray, who died in 1948, and Mrs. Beatrice Cantrell of Spartanburg, South Carolina. Mr. and Mrs. Clopton lived in Winterset until 1916 when they moved to Des Moines. She had been a resident of California since 1943.

Besides her daughter, her survivors include one grandson; one brother, Mont Cleland of Chicago; and seven sisters, Mrs. Catherine Welch of Sepulveda, California, Mrs. Dorothy Balzer and Mrs. Leota Conrad of Des Moines, Mrs. Frances Wissler of Wick, Mrs. Grace Archer of Martensdale, Mrs. Pearl Duffy of Conception Junction, Missouri and Mrs. Mary Hewes of Minneapolis.

Funeral services were held at the Webb Funeral Home in Lindsay on Thursday, June 13, conducted by Rev. Larry Ferguson and burial was made in the Olive Cemetery there.
