Died, of tumors, on Thanksgiving day, 1889, at the home of her sister at Laport, Mrs. Rudy, wife of J. Rudy, age 47 years. It is with feelings of sadness that we make the above announcement. The happy home of Mr. Rudy has been bereft of the guiding star of its destiny, mother. Mrs. Rudy has been in poor health for some time, yet none presumed that she would be called home so soon. She was ready to meet her Lord and Master, and left her little family in his care, and peacefully passed away.

Obituary Notice.

Mrs. Mary Rudy was born in Ohio, Jan. 21st, 1842, and was therefore aged 47 years, 9 months and 28 days. She was married to her bereaved companion 27 years ago, November 6th. She died November 28th, Thanksgiving Day, dying at the home of her sister at Laporte City, of this state, surrounded by her husband, father, mother, sister and her numerous friends, dying peacefully and calmly, only regretting that she could not see her children in her last hours.

Prior to the time of a little more than a year ago Mrs. Rudy had always enjoyed good health, but at this time a cancer developed, and for the last few months she failed rapidly. Having a desire to visit her parents in Vinton, four weeks before the day of her death she started to see them. She seemed to rally in health for a few days and then failed rapidly. Her life has been an example, a devoted companion and mother, a benevolent woman, the kindest of neighbors. She was a close Bible reader and this last summer she attended Sabbath school closely when her health was so poor. Her life was an example that any one might follow to profit by it.

In her last hours just after her husband had arrived at her bedside, after the exertion of moving her to a chair, she looked up and said: “Almost over the river.” She bade her mother good bye, telling her not to grieve that she would “soon meet her in heaven,” expressing perfect peace and faith. Would that all might be able to say the same at the last.

She will be sadly missed at home. Her neighbors will miss her and all will miss her, but she is “at rest.”

The funeral services took place at the M. E. Church on the 30th of November. Her remains were followed to the cemetery by a long procession.

Note: Burial was made in the Moon cemetery.
