A SUDDEN DEATH.

Rev. Hiram Jackson, of Earlham, Dies Suddenly in Des Moines.

From a report in Wednesday’s Des Moines News we learn of the sudden death of Rev. Hiram Jackson, a minister of the Friends denomination, at Earlham. The account is as follows:

Rev. Hiram Jackson, of Earlham, this state, dropped dead in McCabe’s dry goods store on Walnut street a few minutes before noon to-day. He, in company with his daughter and another lady, came into the store and were attending to some shopping matters. Mr. Jackson sat down upon one of the revolving stools to rest, and soon after the clerks nearest him were astonished to see him fall upon the floor. His daughter, with the help from others, raised him to a sitting posture and immediately summoned Dr. Latts, but when he arrived life was extinct. The cause of the death was heart disease, with which he had been troubled for some time. The family at Earlham were notified and will be here tonight to arrange for taking the deceased to that place. He was 66 years of age.

The writer knew Mr. Jackson well, having for nearly two years been a boarder in his family. He had no children, but had one adopted daughter, Miss Mary Moorman, a near relative of his wife, who, we suppose, is the one referred to in the account we have quoted.

Mr. Jackson was a man of the purest and most upright life, a trusted and revered leader and minister of the Friends church, a man having the good will and esteem of all with whom he came in contact. He leaves an aged wife with whom he had traveled the journey of life for about forty-five years.

His life was one of toil, and of Christian endeavor and usefulness. Over his last resting place a fit epitaph would be, “He went about doing good.”
