VELDA MORSE, Winterset

Velda Morse, 101, died Nov. 6, 2007, at Winterset Care Center South.

Funeral services were held Friday, Nov. 9, at Collins Oak Park Chapel in Winterset. Burial was at Pleasant View Cemetery in Madison County.

Velda Morse was born March 26, 1906, to Edgar and Dolly (Philsby) Hulbert of Barney and was a 1926 graduate of Patterson High School. Her marriage to William Craigue Morse took place July 24, 1928, in Indianola. A lifetime resident of Madison County, Velda taught school for one year and then became a homemaker. Her memberships included the Rebekah Lodge, Daughters of the American Revolution (CORE), Sunshine Garden Club, First United Methodist Church and the Methodist Women.

She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Edgar L. Morse; two brothers, Lester Hulbert and Rufus Hulbert; two sisters, Stella (Hulbert) Martin and Esther (Hulbert) Reed; and a grandson, Clifton Paul Morse.

She is survived by one son, W.C. “Bill” Morse Jr. of Cedar Falls; one daughter, Betty J. Johns of Earlham; and 26 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials given to the family will be directed to the Oak Grove Community Church or Winterset Care Center South Activity Fund.
