Prudence Heberling Hamilton (Mrs. Clair E.) died on Sunday, March 8, 1981, in Missoula, Mont. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 12, at 9:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Iowa City with graveside services and burial in Winterset that afternoon at 4 o'clock. Visitation will be at 3 p.m. at Collins Funeral Home.

Mrs. Hamilton was born in Lamont, Iowa, on June 26, 1895. She was an alumnus of the University of Iowa, and a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority and Mortar Board in Iowa City. She was past president of the W.S.C.S. of the First United Methodist Church, P.E.O., Daughters of the American Revolution, N.N. Club and I.C.T. Club.

She was the wife of Judge Clair E. Hamilton who preceded her in death in 1975.

Mrs. Hamilton was a former teacher in the Winterset schools. The family moved to Iowa City in 1939.

Survivors are a son Joseph H. Hamilton of Greensboro, N.C., and three daughters, Mrs. Richard K. Smith (Prudence) of Missoula, Mont., Mrs. George Athanas (Connie) of Atherton, Calif., and Mrs. Charles Crockett (Judy) of Los Alamitos, Calif., nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Mrs. Hamilton's children will return to Iowa City and Winterset for the services.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests that donations be made to the memorial fund of the First United Methodist Church in Iowa City or the University of Iowa Foundation Memorial Scholarship Fund.
