Death of James Collie.

Died, at Winterset, Monday morning, August 20th, Mr. James Collie.

Mr. Collie was born in Scotland, January 24th, 1851. He emigrated to America in 1871, stopping first at Toronto, Canada, where he remained until 1875. He left Toronto for Iowa July 13, 1875. After staying in Des Moines a short time, he came to Winterset in the fall of that year, where he has resided until his death. He was married in 1879 and leaves a widow and one child.

Mr. Collie united with the Free Church of Scotland at Durress, Aberdeenshire, when he was a lad of 18 or 19 years of age. He brought a letter from the Knox Presbyterian church in 1875.

He was one of our most industrious, enterprising, hardworking citizens until his health broke down some 18 months ago. For the last year he has been a helpless invalid. It was a long, patient, heroic, but hopeless struggle for life, in which the fell destroyer finally triumphed. During the last months of his life he bore his great affliction with patience and fortitude, recognizing the hand of his heavenly father calling him to Himself, and humbly he sought in faith in his devine Savior to prepare for the great change that awaited him; and when it came he met death calmly and trustfully, looking forward without fear to that "rest which remaineth."

The funeral services on Tuesday afternoon were attended by a large concourse of people, and were conducted by Dr. Robertson, assisted by Rev. Mr. Peck. He was borne to his last resting place by the I.O.O.F., of which fraternity he was a member, who attended the funeral in a body, and performed the burial rites of the order at the grave.
